GlobULeS. IV. UVIT/AstroSat Detection of Extremely Low Mass White Dwarf Companions to Blue Straggler Stars in NGC 362

چکیده

We report the discovery of extremely low-mass white dwarfs (ELM WDs) as a companion blue straggler stars (BSSs) in Galactic globular cluster NGC 362 using images from AstroSats Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT). Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) for 26 FUV bright member BSSs are created data UVIT, UVOT, Gaia EDR3, and 2.2 m ESO/MPI telescope. A single SED is fitted to 14 BSSs, whereas double-SED fits revealed ELM WDs binary companions 12 studied. The effective temperature, radius, luminosity mass found have range (Teff = 9750-18000 K, R 0.1-0.4 Rsun, L 0.4-3.3 Lsun, M =0.16-0.20 Msun). These suggest that post-mass-transfer systems formed through Case A/B transfer pathway. To best our knowledge, this first finding BSS clusters. This known sequence (as classified by SEDs) follow collisional colour-magnitude diagram. cooling ages 9 be younger than 500 Myr. Though may during core-collapse (approx 200 Myr) or part dynamical evolution cluster, they provide new insights on dynamics cluster.

Blue straggler stars in dwarf spheroidal galaxies

Blue straggler star (BSS) candidates have been observed in all old dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs), however whether or not they are authentic BSSs or young stars has been a point of debate. To both address this issue and obtain a better understanding of the formation of BSSs in different environments we have analysed a sample of BSS candidates in two nearby Galactic dSphs, Draco and Ursa Mino...

Low - mass companions to Hyades stars ∗

It is now well established that a large fraction of the low-mass stars are binaries or higher order multiples. Similarly a sizable fraction have giant planets. In contrast to these, the situation for brown dwarf companions is complicated: While close systems seem to be extremely rare, wide systems are possibly more common. In this paper, we present new results on a survey for low-mass companion...

Limits on Unresolved Planetary Companions to White Dwarf Remnants of 14 Intermediate-Mass Stars

We present Spitzer IRAC photometry of white dwarf remnants of 14 stars with M = 3− 5 M⊙. We do not detect mid-infrared excess around any of our targets. By demanding a 3σ photometric excess at 4.5 μm for unresolved companions, we rule out planetary mass companions down to 5, 7, or 10 MJ for 13 of our targets based on the Burrows et al. (2003) substellar cooling models. Combined with previous IR...

Low-Mass Companions to Solar-Type Stars

We present preliminary results from a coronagraphic survey of young nearby Sun-like stars using the Palomar and Keck adaptive optics systems. We have targeted 251 solar analogs (F5–K5) at 20–160 pc from the Sun, spanning the 3–3000 Myr age range. The youngest (<500 Myr) ≈100 of these have been imaged with deeper exposures to search for sub-stellar companions. The deep survey is sensitive to bro...

Low Mass Companions to White Dwarfs

This paper summarizes the results of over 17 years of work searching for low mass stellar and substellar companions to more than 370 nearby white dwarfs. Roughly 60 low mass, unevolved companions were found and studied all together, with over 20 discovered in the last few years, including the first unambiguous brown dwarf companion to a white dwarf, GD 1400B. The resulting spectral type distrib...
